The battle of red cliff

The legend captivated me—not for its heroics, but for its impossible mathematics: a smaller army swallowing a larger one, defying the physics of brute force. I sought to paint this miracle of strategy.

I employ radical minimalism. The monumental cliffs and vast Yangtze are rendered as pure negative space—an emptiness that equalizes. Into this void, I place the minute mechanics of war: the angle of a bow, the tension in a silk banner, the glow of a night camp. These tiny marks embody Shi (势)—the strategic momentum that bends reality.

This is a study in contrasts: the infinitesimal versus the infinite, the tactical versus the cosmic. The Red Cliff, in my ink, becomes a monument to the geometry of the mind overcoming the chaos of the masses.
