Born in Macau and sharing most of her adult life between Europe and Asia, Cecilia Ho is a contemporary transdisciplinary artist who developed her cross cultural practice for over 30 years exploring different artistic forms and mediums.

Art has always been an integral part of Ho’s life, she spends most of her time enriching her practice and drawing inspiration by diving into other artists’ work and finding every spare moment to expand her skills. Ho admires the work of a number of conceptual contemporary artists including Marcel Duchamp and Bruce Nauman which encouraged her to reframe how to conceptualise her ideas through her art.

With her initial training being in Chinese Painting and Calligraphy over the years, other art forms including photography and conceptual installation projects drew her interest. 

One of her most notable projects, “Transporting QI” curated by Alvin Yip, aimed at witnessing people’s identity during the modernisation of China. It delved into the Chinese concept of QI, playing on its concept around the movement of vital breath and the arrival of Good Fortune. This project was selected to be included in the dOCUMENTA (13) collateral program, exhibited at the Macau Museum of Art and showcased in FotoFeo in 2012 with Martin Parr and Raghu Rai. 

Some of her most notable artistic collaborations include projects with Australian aerial photographer Richard Woldendorp, her longtime mentor, and French video artist Robert Cahen.  Her other key work including Fusion Sino-French explores philosophy and poetry of the two cultures. This French May Associate Project was exhibited at the University of Macau, 2024.  She participated recently in a group show at the Orient Foundation, Macau, curated by João Miguel Barros.

In her latest project with Robert Cahen,  Porous Instant  explores passage, memory, breath and the experience of the in-between. Developed through a shared focus on thresholds, disappearance, transformation and resonance, the project situates her work within a renewed contemporary framework.
